Yes, Father's Day was last week, but I just have to post this letter that my friend David Thayer received from his daughter Lily (picture by David's wife, Rena Thayer):
dear david arnold thayer
you are my dad I know but I also hid some exploseves under Jacks bed any way your my dad and you are so special to me In so many ways.
Love
Lily
Love, indeed! How could you not?!
The deeper lesson behind this letter is that parents need to stop taking their children's mischief personally. In their children's world, they can love you and still have a hankering for explosions and violence.
They might cut their own hair or that of a sibling, but "your my dad and you are so special to me In so many ways."
They might smear glue all over the chair, but "your my dad and you are so special to me In so many ways."
They might secretly plot each other's deaths in agonizing and horrible ways, but "your my dad and you are so special to me In so many ways."
The real love in this letter is that Lily warned her dad that her brother's life was in serious jeopardy. Be watchful, Thayers! And know that you are loved!
