WHY "CHOOSE THE NICKEL"?
As Dale, Sr. (co-founder Christina Bailey's grandfather) tells it, he once witnessed his little boy Dale, Jr. (Christina's father) being tested by a man from their local congregation who liked to get a laugh at children's expense. The man would give the children the choice between a dime and a nickel. When Dale, Jr. kept choosing the nickel, the man chuckled to bystanders that Dale, likely believing the nickel to be of greater worth, had been fooled by his ruse.
Dale, Sr. confronted his son, asking, "Dale! You know a dime is worth more than a nickel. Why did you choose the nickel?" The soft-spoken Dale, Jr. responded, "Dad, if I take the dime, do you think he'll want to play that game again?"
Choose the Nickel is devoted to the idea that our children have more potential to be money and business savvy than we might give them credit for. And we believe that the childhood stories of today's leaders in business and entertainment provide great motivation for parents to engage in meaningful conversations about growing up and working.
